Experimental Sunshirt

A seersucker pivot shirt with a removable hood to help keep you safe and cool in the sun. UV protective fabrics need to be densely woven in order to prevent the sun's rays from reaching your skin, but that same density tends to make the fabric hotter and less breathable. With the Experimental Sunshirt we tried to slice around that catch-22 by using a UV protective seersucker. Seersucker is a great summer fabric because it's crinkled texture minimizes skin contact, allowing air to flow freely around the body, especially when you are in motion. Two front pockets and a large mesh inner stash pocket so you can carry what you need to. Wear it like an overshirt on long days outside. The hood can be worn in front or back, or removed altogether. This cotton/poly seersucker from Japan has a UV filter in the fibers to help prevent against sunburn. It's woven in a way that makes the surface of the fabric slightly bumpy so that most of it is held away from the skin, letting air flow through to keep you cool.

Seersucker fabric is produced with two warp beams. The yarns on one beam are held at regular tension and the ones on the other beam are held at slack tension. As the filling yarn is put into place, the slack yarns crinkle to form a puckered stripe, and the regular tensioned yarns form the flat stripe.
